SikaTop®-109 Seal VN

Polymer-modified, flexible, cementitious waterproofing coating

SikaTop®-109 Seal VN is a cementitious, two-part, polymer-modified flexible waterproofing coating. It is applied to concrete and mortar to prevent waterinfiltration.

Usage

Waterproofing, sealing of hairline cracks and as a protective coating against aggressive elements such as carbon dioxide (for example, in concrete repair work), frost and de-icing agents.
Areas of application include water tanks, basements, car parks, terraces, balconies, bridges, retaining walls, swimming pools, RC gutters, bathroom floors and walls, planter boxes, wet rooms for example kitchens, waste water treatment plants, shower rooms and laundries.

Shelf life

Min. 6 months if stored properly in unopened, original packaging

Storage conditions

Storage in original unopened and undamaged sealed packaging, in cool, dry conditions. Protect from direct sunlight.

Component A : B = 1 : 2.0 (parts by weight)

Ambient Air Temperature

+8°C minimum

Pot Life

~ 60 minutes (at +20°C)
Pot life is shorter at higher temperatures. Cover material container when not in use.

Waiting Time / Overcoating

Allow 4 - 8 hours (+20°C) for the first coat to cure before applying the following coats.

Consumption

Minimum 2 coats at approximately 1.0 kg/m² per coat.

For areas subject to high water ingress, apply a third coat at ~1.0 kg/m².

Always ensure waterproof coatings are applied in a minimum of 2 coats.
Application steps

MIXING

Under normal circumstances, when the full quantities of both components are mixed together, a slurry consistency will result.
Mix in a clean container by slowly adding the powder component to the liquid component and stir with slow speed electric mixer (< 500 r.p.m.).

APPLICATION

Whilst the substrate is still damp but free of standing water, apply the first coat by brush, roller of squeegee, working the material well into the
surface to achieve full bond.

Leave to harden for approximately 4-8 hours at the temperatures above 20 oC before applying the second coat.

For floor applications, to avoid risk of damage to the previous coats, it is recommended to apply the next coat after 24 hours.

If the subsequent coat is applied 12 hours or later, the slightly prewetted, preferably using a fine spraying.

For large areas, SikaTop®-109 Seal VN can be applied by spray using a suitable worm type mixer/pump.
An additional stripe coat is recommended over cracks, wall/floor intersections, etc. as these locations are where movement is most likely
to be expected in service.

CURING TREATMENT

As with all cement based products, it is essential to cure SikaTop®-109 Seal VN immediately after application against direct sunlight, wind, rain and frost for a minimum of 3 to 5 days to ensure full cement hydration and to minimise cracking.
Use polythene sheeting or similar approved methods.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean tools and equipment immediately with water. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
